Placements24 is seeking a Senior Subsurface Geophysicist specializing in seismic processing for its Nelspruit, Mpumalanga operations. You will design advanced workflows, mentor staff, and integrate seismic interpretations with geological data to support exploration targets.

The role requires 8+ years in seismic processing and interpretation, with expert use of Petrel/OpenVGS, GeoTeric, and GX Technology tools. A hybrid work arrangement is offered to collaborate with geologists and engineers.

Qualifications

• Master's or Ph.D. degree in Geophysics or a related Earth Science discipline.
• 8+ years of hands-on experience in seismic processing and interpretation within the oil and gas industry.
• Expertise in using industry-standard seismic processing software packages (e.g., Schlumberger's Petrel/OpenVGS, ION's GeoTeric, GX Technology).
• Strong theoretical understanding of seismic wave propagation, velocity analysis, migration techniques, and attribute analysis.
• Proven ability to deliver high-quality seismic products for exploration and development projects.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills for collaborative teamwork.
• Experience working in a hybrid setting, with proximity to Nelspruit, Mpumalanga.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and execute advanced seismic processing workflows (e.g., RTM, FWI, AVO) to create high-resolution subsurface images.
• Perform quality control on seismic data throughout the processing sequence to ensure data integrity and accuracy.
• Interpret processed seismic data, identify geological structures, and map potential hydrocarbon reservoirs.
• Collaborate with geologists and reservoir engineers to integrate seismic interpretations with other subsurface data.
• Evaluate seismic acquisition parameters and provide input for future surveys to optimize data quality.
• Troubleshoot processing challenges and develop innovative solutions for complex data issues.
• Stay abreast of the latest advancements in seismic processing technologies and methodologies.
• Mentor and guide junior geophysicists and processing staff.
• Prepare technical reports and present findings to management and project teams.
• Contribute to the overall exploration strategy by providing robust geophysical insights.
