Job summary

Placements24 seeks a highly competent Subsurface Geologist to join the exploration and production team in Mahikeng. This hybrid role involves analyzing geological data to identify hydrocarbon potential and to build integrated subsurface models for guiding exploration strategies.

You will collaborate with geophysicists, reservoir engineers, and other geoscientists to maximize resource recovery and provide critical geological insights for development planning.

Qualifications

• Degree in Geology or Earth Sciences; Master's degree preferred.
• Minimum of 6 years of experience in subsurface geology within the oil and gas exploration sector.
• Proficiency in geological modeling software (e.g., Petrel, Move) and well log analysis tools.
• Strong understanding of sedimentology, stratigraphy, and structural geology.
• Excellent analytical skills and the ability to synthesize complex data.
• Effective communication and presentation abilities.

Responsibilities

• Interpret geological data, including well logs, core samples, and seismic data, to understand subsurface formations.
• Develop and refine geological models and maps to delineate potential hydrocarbon reservoirs.
• Evaluate drilling prospects and provide geological support during drilling operations.
• Collaborate with the team to integrate geological information with geophysical and engineering data.
• Assess reservoir quality, rock types, and depositional environments.
• Contribute to reserve estimation and resource assessment reports.
