About the Role

Our client, a leading engineering consultancy in Johannesburg , is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Structural Engineer to join their dynamic team. This is a crucial role where you will be instrumental in the design and execution of complex building projects across various sectors, including commercial, residential, and industrial developments. You will contribute to all phases of the project lifecycle, from initial concept development and feasibility studies to detailed design, construction support, and project completion. The successful candidate will leverage their extensive knowledge of structural analysis, design principles, and building codes to deliver safe, efficient, and innovative structural solutions. Key Responsibilities

• Perform structural analysis and design for various building types using advanced software (e.g., SAP2000, Etabs, Revit Structure).
• Prepare detailed structural drawings, specifications, and reports in compliance with relevant South African National Standards (SANS) and international codes.
• Collaborate closely with architects, other engineering disciplines, and construction teams to ensure integrated and buildable designs.
• Conduct site inspections to monitor construction progress and address any structural queries or challenges that may arise.
• Review shop drawings and respond to contractor queries during the construction phase.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineering staff.
• Contribute to project planning, cost estimation, and resource allocation.
• Ensure adherence to project timelines and quality standards.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from a recognized university.
• A minimum of 7 years of relevant professional experience in structural engineering, with a strong focus on building structures.
• Professional registration with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) as a Pr. Eng. or eligible for registration.
• Proficiency in structural analysis and design software (e.g., SAP2000, Etabs, SAFE) and CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit).
• In-depth knowledge of building codes, standards, and construction practices in South Africa.
• Excellent understanding of material properties and structural behavior (concrete, steel, masonry).
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
• Experience in managing and mentoring junior engineers is highly advantageous.
• Valid driver's license and willingness to travel for site visits in and around Johannesburg .
