Placements24 is seeking a Senior Sound Designer to join our client's Johannesburg studio. You will craft immersive soundscapes for interactive projects, shaping emotional resonance and overall audio quality in collaboration with designers and engineers.

You will design, record, edit, and mix sounds, implement audio with Wwise/FMOD, and mentor junior designers. A strong portfolio and 5+ years in game audio are required, with a passion for cutting-edge sound in interactive media.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Audio Engineering, Music Production, Game Design, or related field.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and mix high-quality sound effects for interactive projects.

Education

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate closely with game designers, level designers, and other audio team members to integrate sound effectively into the game's narrative and mechanics.
• Record, edit, and process audio assets, ensuring they meet the highest technical and artistic standards.
• Develop and maintain audio middleware integration, including Wwise or FMOD, ensuring efficient and dynamic audio playback.
• Troubleshoot and resolve any audio-related technical issues that may arise during development.
• Mentor junior sound designers and contribute to establishing best practices within the audio department.
• Stay current with the latest audio technologies and trends in the interactive entertainment industry.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Audio Engineering, Music Production, Game Design, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
• Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in sound design for video games or interactive media.
• Proficiency in digital audio workstations (DAWs) such as Pro Tools, Logic Pro, or Cubase.
• Strong understanding of audio middleware like Wwise or FMOD.
• Excellent understanding of acoustics, psychoacoustics, and audio mixing principles.
• Experience with game engines such as Unreal Engine or Unity.
• Exceptional critical listening skills and attention to detail.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
