Job summary

Communicate Recruitment is seeking a Senior Software Engineer in Cape Town, offering a hybrid work setup. You will own complex features from design to deployment, shaping scalable cloud-native products in a TypeScript, AWS and event-driven environment.

You will work across the development lifecycle, mentor peers, and contribute to engineering standards while delivering reliable systems and quality code.

Qualifications

• 5+ years software development experience
• Strong commercial experience with TypeScript, Node.js and React
• Proven experience building and operating production systems in AWS (EKS, Lambda, RDS)
• Strong experience designing and developing RESTful and GraphQL APIs
• Practical experience with MongoDB, PostgreSQL and Kafka
• Experience with event-driven architectures
• Strong automated testing experience (Jest, Pact, TDD)
• Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions)
• Strong infrastructure-as-code experience with Terraform
• Experience with Datadog or similar observability/monitoring platforms
• Experience with Git, Jira and Confluence in Agile environment

Responsibilities

Senior Software Engineer | Cape Town | Hybrid

Are you a hands-on Senior Software Engineer who enjoys building cloud-native products from the ground up, solving complex technical challenges and taking ownership from design through to deployment?

We’re looking for an experienced engineer to join a high-performing, cross-functional technology team working on modern, scalable products in a TypeScript, AWS and event-driven environment.

The Role

You’ll take ownership of complex features and services, working closely with Product Managers, Engineers and QA to turn requirements into reliable, scalable and secure software.

You’ll be hands-on across the full development lifecycle — from refining stories and designing solutions to writing code, reviewing pull requests, testing, deployment and production support.

You’ll also have the opportunity to influence engineering standards, mentor less experienced developers and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop and deploy high-quality, scalable software and services.
• Own complex features from initial design through to production.
• Collaborate with Product, Engineering and QA teams to define and deliver technical solutions.
