Job summary

WENZ in Cape Town seeks a Senior Server Engineer to lead design, administration, and ongoing improvement of enterprise infrastructure with strong Windows and Linux focus. You will advance automation, IaC, and DevOps practices to boost efficiency, reliability, and scalability.

The role demands advanced troubleshooting across hardware, OS, storage, and virtualization, with responsibility for documentation, change control, and after-hours support in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• MCSE or equivalent Microsoft infrastructure/cloud certification.
• VMware VCP or equivalent.
• Cloud certifications (Azure, AWS, or equivalent).
• Degree or Diploma in Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field advantageous but not essential.
• Strong scripting and automation skills (PowerShell, Python, Bash).
• Extensive experience administering Microsoft Windows Server environments in an enterprise setting.
• Experience with Dell, HPE, Cisco, and other industry-standard platforms.
• Proven ability in a high-pressure operational support environment with stringent availability requirements.
• Strong OS hardening, patch management, and vulnerability remediation knowledge.
• Experience with NetApp SAN or similar enterprise storage advantageous.
• Experience administering Linux (Ubuntu, Red Hat) advantageous.
• Experience with infrastructure automation, DevOps, and IaC tools advantageous.
• Strong troubleshooting and communication skills across infrastructure, OS, storage, and cloud environments.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, maintain, and troubleshoot server and infrastructure environments for high availability and performance.
• Manage Windows-based server platforms: install, configure, patch, monitor, and support.
• Design, implement Linux/open-source platforms ensuring stability, security, and hybrid operation.
• Administer and optimize enterprise storage ensuring data availability, performance, resilience, and BC requirements.
• Develop automation and IaC to support DevOps practices and reduce manual tasks.
• Administer and optimize virtualized infrastructure for scalability and efficiency.
• Design and maintain identity and access management (AD forests, domains, authentication).
• Design, implement, and support enterprise messaging and collaboration environments.
• Deliver cloud transformation initiatives: migrations, deployments, and hybrid integration.
• Provide advanced troubleshooting and root-cause analysis for complex incidents.
• Participate in after-hours support and escalation processes.
• Ensure change management governance and project delivery adherence.
• Collaborate with IT teams to improve infrastructure services and performance.
• Develop and maintain technical documentation, standards, and knowledge repositories.
• Identify opportunities for modernization, automation, and process improvement.
