Job summary

Prudent HR Solutions in Stutterheim, Eastern Cape is seeking a qualified Sawmill Maintenance Fitter to join a busy operation. The role reports to the Maintenance Manager and focuses on mechanical maintenance, repairs, and installation of plant and machinery.

Candidates should have a Fitter and Turner Red Seal, Matric or NTC 3, and at least 15 years in sawmilling, with strong hydraulic and pneumatic experience; willing to work irregular hours and standby as required.

Qualifications

• Matric or NTC 3
• Fitter and Turner Trade Test with Red Seal
• Minimum 15 years’ experience in a sawmilling environment
• Wetmill experience advantageous
• Strong experience with hydraulic and pneumatic equipment, conveyors, gearboxes, belt drives and chain drives
• Experience with frame saws, bandsaws, drum chippers and debarkers
• Valid Code EB driver’s licence and own transport
• Must speak English; isiXhosa advantageous

Responsibilities

• Perform mechanical maintenance and repairs on plant and ancillary equipment.
• Install new plant and machinery.
• Record completed work accurately on job cards.
• Maintain high housekeeping and safety standards.
• Perform overtime and standby duties as required.
• Assist with training apprentices and semi-skilled artisans.
• Requisition spares and materials.
• Assist with implementing planned maintenance programmes.
