Job summary

Sheldon Recruitment and Selection is seeking a skilled Millwright for an Eastern Cape-based role. The candidate should have Matric/NTC 3 with a completed millwright trade test and at least 5 years post-trade experience in an industrial setting.

Strong mechanical and electrical fault-finding, hydraulic/pneumatic service, conveyors, gearboxes, and variable speed drives are essential. An EB license and English proficiency are required; PLC and welding experience plus Xhosa knowledge are

Qualifications

• Matric/NTC 3 with completed millwright trade test.
• Minimum 5 years post-trade experience in an industrial manufacturing/production environment.
• Proven mechanical and electrical fault-finding on production machinery and control systems.
• Experience servicing, repairing and installing hydraulic/pneumatic equipment, conveyors, gearboxes, belts and chain drives.
• Electrical/instrumentation experience including motors, MCCs, VSDs and control equipment.
• EB drivers license with own transport.
• Willing to work irregular hours, standby and overtime, including weekends.
• Able to communicate in English (read, speak and write).
• Advantage: PLC experience, welding, sawmilling experience, and Xhosa language ability.

Responsibilities

• Perform cost-effective mechanical, electrical and instrumentation maintenance on plant equipment.
• Conduct fault-finding, diagnostics and repairs to minimise downtime.
• Cost-effective installation and commissioning of new plant and machinery.
• Record all work on job cards and keep equipment knowledge up to date.
• Maintain high housekeeping standards and total safety compliance.
• Perform overtime and standby duties as required.
• Requisition spares and materials as needed.
• Assist in formulating and implementing a planned maintenance programme.

Job description

Applicants are required to meet the following criteria:

• Matric / NTC 3 with completed trade test as a Millwright (Red Seal certificate preferred).
• A minimum of 5 years post-trade experience in an industrial manufacturing or production environment.
• Proven mechanical and electrical fault-finding ability on production machinery and associated control systems.
• Strong experience in the servicing, repair and installation of: Hydraulic and pneumatic equipment; Conveyors; Gearboxes; and Belt and chain drives.
• Strong electrical and instrumentation experience, including electric motors, motor control centres (MCCs), variable speed drives (VSDs) and control equipment.
• Medically fit with sober habits.
• Code EB drivers licence with own transport.
• Willing to work irregular hours, perform standby duties and regularly work overtime, especially on weekends.
• Must be able to communicate in English (speak, read & write).
• Added advantage: PLC experience, welding experience, previous experience in a sawmilling environment, and the ability to communicate in Xhosa

The successful applicant would be responsible for, but not limited to:

• Perform cost-effective mechanical, electrical and instrumentation maintenance and repairs on all plant and ancillary equipment in the department.
• Conduct fault-finding, diagnostics and repairs on production machinery, control systems, electric motors, MCCs, VSDs and instrumentation to minimise downtime.
• Cost-effective installation and commissioning of new plant and machinery.
• Record all work performed on plant and ancillary equipment on a job card.
• Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of all mechanical and electrical plant and ancillary equipment on site.
• Maintain a high level of housekeeping and total compliance with safety standards within the work area.
• Perform overtime work and standby duties as and when required.
• Requisition spares and materials as required.
• Assist in the formulation and implementation of a planned maintenance programme.
