Black Pen Recruitment partners with a fintech scale-up delivering solar energy and mobile payments across Africa. We are hiring a Senior Regulatory, Legal & Compliance Manager for Smartphones to lead regulatory, legal and compliance initiatives in multiple markets from Cape Town.

You will coordinate cross-functional teams, manage regulator engagements, and build scalable compliance processes to support rapid growth and cross-border expansion.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Law, Compliance, Finance, Accounting, or Business.
• 5+ years in legal, regulatory, or compliance roles in fintech or financial services.
• Experience with licensing, filings, and regulator engagement across multiple jurisdictions.
• Strong business sense: pricing, unit economics, and regulatory cost impact.
• Ability to coordinate internal teams and external advisers.

Responsibilities

• Own regulatory, legal, and compliance strategy across priority markets.
• Coordinate cross-functional teams and external advisers.
• Develop repeatable templates for compliance processes and risk assessments.
• Oversee AML/KYC, sanctions, data privacy, and third-party risk programs.
• Prepare expansion readiness reports for leadership and board.
