Placements24 in Bloemfontein is seeking a Senior VFX Artist to create stunning real-time visual effects for games, pushing the boundaries of visual fidelity and immersion across multiple projects.

You will specialise in particle systems, fluids and shader creation, collaborating with environment artists, animators and technical directors to integrate high-impact effects into the engine with performance in mind.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional experience as a VFX Artist in the games or film industry.
• Proficiency with VFX creation tools and engines such as Houdini, Maya, Unity, or Unreal Engine.
• Strong understanding of particle systems, fluids, and physics-based simulations.
• Excellent artistic eye for composition, timing, color, and lighting within visual effects.
• Ability to create performant VFX that meet technical constraints.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Responsibilities

• Create high-quality visual effects (explosions, magic, environmental effects, etc.) using industry-standard software.
• Develop and optimize particle systems, physics simulations, and other real-time VFX technologies.
• Collaborate with art directors and technical artists to define the visual style and technical requirements for VFX.
• Integrate VFX assets into the game engine or rendering pipeline, ensuring optimal performance.
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to VFX implementation and performance.
• Mentor junior VFX artists and provide constructive feedback to ensure consistent quality.
