Placements24 is seeking a Senior R&D Mechanical Engineer for a cutting-edge medical devices company in Sandton, Gauteng. You will conceptualize, design, and prototype advanced mechanical systems from concept to proof-of-concept, with hybrid work and on-site lab days in Sandton.

The role demands creative problem-solving, strong CAD/FEA skills, and collaboration across biomedical, materials, and electrical teams, with ISO 13485 compliance and rapid prototyping via 3D printing.

Qualifications

• Master's degree or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum of 7 years of mechanical R&D experience focused on new product innovation.
• Experience designing complex mechanisms, preferably medical devices.
• Proficiency in CAD modeling and FEA software.
• Knowledge of medical device materials, sterilization, and regulatory standards.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design and development of concepts for medical devices.
• Develop prototypes and conduct testing to validate performance.
• Create 3D models and simulations using CAD software.
• Perform stress, thermal, and fatigue analyses on designs.
• Collaborate with cross-functional R&D teams including biomedical engineers.
• Evaluate new materials and manufacturing processes for medical use.
• Prepare technical documentation and design specifications.
• Support IP development and patent filings.
• Ensure compliance with ISO 13485 and related standards.
