Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a creative Mechanical Design Engineer to join its Randburg R&D division in a hybrid role that combines on-site collaboration with remote flexibility. You will drive the full product development lifecycle from ideation to initial prototyping.

The candidate will design novel components using CAD tools, run simulations, build and test prototypes, and work closely with cross-functional teams to translate concepts into tangible solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical discipline.
• 2–5 years of experience in mechanical design, preferably with an R&D or product innovation focus.
• Proficiency in CAD software such as Fusion 360 or Onshape; familiarity with simulations.
• Strong foundational knowledge of mechanical principles, materials, and manufacturing processes.

Responsibilities

• Conceptualize and design novel mechanical components and systems for next-generation products, utilizing advanced CAD software.
• Conduct feasibility studies, technical research, and performance simulations to evaluate design concepts.
• Build and test prototypes, iteratively refining designs based on experimental results and team feedback.
• Collaborate closely with cross-functional R&D teams, including electrical engineers and materials scientists, to integrate mechanical solutions.
• Document research findings, design specifications, and test procedures thoroughly.
• Stay informed about emerging technologies and trends in mechanical engineering and product development.
