Job summary

Marvel Placement Consultants seeks an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to lead cost management on mining capital projects. You will prepare estimates, budgets, and cash flows, monitor expenditure, and deliver monthly commercial reports for senior management.

On-site work is required at Dwarsrivier, Limpopo. The role requires 8–10 years of mining QS experience, strong contract administration knowledge (FIDIC/NEC/GCC/JBCC), and proficiency with Excel and ERP systems.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or National Diploma in Quantity Surveying.
  • SACQSP registration with advantages.
  • 8–10 years' Quantity Surveying experience in mining.
  • Experience on mining capital projects, infrastructure, plant construction, or mining maintenance.
  • Strong knowledge of contract administration (FIDIC, NEC, GCC or JBCC).
  • Extensive cost estimation, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting experience.
  • Experience preparing and evaluating tender documentation and contractor submissions.
  • Strong procurement and subcontract management experience.
  • Experience managing variations, claims, and commercial negotiations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Advanced Excel; cost management/ERP experience advantageous.
  • Willingness to work on-site in Dwarsrivier, Limpopo.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare accurate project cost estimates, budgets, and cash flow forecasts.
  • Monitor project expenditure and ensure effective cost control throughout project execution.
  • Prepare monthly cost reports, financial forecasts, and commercial reports for management.
  • Analyse project costs and identify opportunities for cost savings and improved efficiencies.
  • Monitor project budgets against actual expenditure and report on variances.
  • Administer construction and mining contracts in accordance with contractual requirements.
  • Prepare, evaluate, and negotiate contract variations, claims, and final accounts.
  • Ensure contractual compliance by contractors, subcontractors, and suppliers.
  • Interpret contract conditions and provide commercial advice to project teams.
  • Resolve contractual and commercial disputes where required.
  • Prepare Bills of Quantities (BOQs), tender documentation and commercial schedules.
  • Evaluate tenders and prepare commercial adjudication reports.
  • Assist with contractor selection and appointment processes.
  • Liaise with procurement regarding material, equipment, and subcontract procurement.
  • Monitor supplier and subcontractor performance against contractual obligations.
  • Monitor project progress against budgets, schedules, and milestones.
  • Prepare payment certificates and verify contractor payment applications.
  • Maintain accurate commercial records and project documentation.
  • Attend commercial, progress, and project review meetings.

  • Minimum of 8–10 years' Quantity Surveying experience within the mining industry.
  • Proven experience working on mining capital projects, infrastructure projects, plant construction, or mining maintenance projects.
  • Strong knowledge of contract administration, including FIDIC, NEC, GCC or JBCC contracts.
  • Extensive experience in cost estimation, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
  • Experience preparing and evaluating tender documentation and contractor submissions.
  • Strong understanding of procurement processes and subcontract management.
  • Experience managing variations, claims, and commercial negotiations.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Advanced Excel.
  • Experience using cost management, ERP, or project management systems will be advantageous.
  • Willingness to work on-site in Dwarsrivier, Limpopo.

  • Monitor project progress against budgets, schedules, and contractual milestones.
  • Prepare payment certificates and verify contractor payment applications.
  • Manage project cash flow and financial forecasting.
  • Compile project commercial reports and present findings to senior management.
  • Maintain accurate commercial records and project documentation.
Stakeholder Management
  • Liaise with project managers, engineers, procurement teams, contractors, consultants, and clients.
  • Attend commercial, progress, and project review meetings.
  • Provide commercial guidance and support to project teams throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Compliance & Governance
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, contractual obligations, mining standards, and statutory requirements.
  • Maintain accurate project records and ensure all documentation is audit-ready.
  • Support project governance, risk management, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure adherence to health, safety, environmental, and quality management systems.
