Job summary

Jobgether is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer (Python/Django) based in South Africa for a fully remote role. You will build and scale high-performance APIs and microservices used by millions of travelers worldwide in a fast-growing, international tech environment.

You will work on architecture, testing, profiling, and optimization, with emphasis on automation, code quality, and maintainability. Strong English communication and ownership are essential in this distributed team.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of backend development experience with Django/DRF.
• Strong Python skills and backend architecture knowledge.
• Experience designing microservices and integrating third-party apps.
• Proven unit testing experience with Pytest and quality-focused practices.
• Experience with asynchronous programming and high-load database queries.
• Excellent English communication in an international team.

Responsibilities

• Build, maintain and optimize mission-critical microservices using Python, Django, and DRF.
• Design scalable APIs to support high-concurrency traffic and peaks.
• Contribute to software architecture focusing on operations, automation, resilience, and scalability.
• Establish strong quality frameworks with unit testing and automated checks.
• Identify and resolve performance issues, N+1 queries, and asynchronous processing problems.
• Collaborate with Product, QA, and engineering teams across locations to deliver maintainable solutions.
• Champion best practices across the development lifecycle and maintainability.
• Lead automation and continuous improvement initiatives.
