Job summary

University of Fort Hare is seeking an experienced Project Engineer / Engineering Manager to lead multidisciplinary projects from Irene, Centurion, overseeing design, procurement, construction and commissioning. You will provide engineering leadership, coordinate interfaces and drive safe, compliant project delivery.

The role requires a Bachelor's in Engineering, 10+ years' relevant experience, and advantageous ECSA PMP qualifications.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
• 10+ years' relevant engineering and project experience, preferably mining, minerals processing, industrial or infrastructure projects.
• Proven experience in project engineering, engineering management and multidisciplinary project execution.
• Professional registration with ECSA as a Professional Engineer will be highly advantageous.
• Experience across design, procurement, construction and commissioning phases.
• Experience leading multidisciplinary engineering and construction packages.
• Understanding of project scope, cost, schedule, quality, risk and technical deliverables.
• Reviewing engineering designs, technical specifications, contractor proposals and deliverables.
• Brownfield and/or greenfield project environments.
• Interfaces between mechanical, electrical, civil, structural, process and other disciplines.
• Experience with EPCM, project services, mining or owner-team environments.
• Mining, minerals processing, coal, iron ore or heavy industrial sectors advantageous.
• Project controls, procurement, cost management and project reporting.
• Managing engineering and construction contractors and service providers.
• Engineering standards, legislation, safety requirements and industry best practice.
• PMP or equivalent project management qualification advantageous.
• Leadership development qualification advantageous.
• MS Office proficiency (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
• Analytical, technical, leadership, communication and stakeholder-management skills.
• Valid South African driver's licence.
• Willingness to travel to project sites.

Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate engineering activities across multidisciplinary projects from concept, feasibility to design, procurement, construction and commissioning.
• Provide technical leadership to engineering teams and ensure deliverables meet project requirements.
• Review engineering designs, specifications, reports, calculations and drawings.
• Coordinate engineering interfaces between disciplines (mechanical, electrical, civil, structural, process).
• Provide input into project planning, execution strategies and constructability reviews.
• Identify engineering risks and mitigation measures throughout the lifecycle.
• Support decision-making and technical governance for the project.
