Job summary

De Beers Group is seeking a Senior Project Design Engineer to lead and coordinate the engineering design lifecycle across VUP, C&M and special projects. The role ensures safe, compliant, value-optimised designs from concept through to handover, operating within a matrix environment without direct reports.

You will steer integration across disciplines, manage interfaces with project teams, consultants and suppliers, and drive design verification and stage-gate readiness for successful delivery.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 / Equivalent NQF Level 4 qualification.
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related technical discipline.
• Professional registration or working towards registration (advantageous).
• Valid driver’s licence.
• Medical fitness to work in a mining environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead engineering design reviews throughout all project phases and ensure safety, operability and compliance.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary inputs to deliver integrated, constructable solutions across concept to commissioning.
• Support project stage-gate reviews with technical assurance and risk reporting.
• Manage interfaces with stakeholders, suppliers and contractors to meet project objectives.
• Drive value engineering and optimisation within mining project contexts.
• Ensure design deliverables are controlled, reviewed and aligned with standards.

Education

Grade 12 / Equivalent NQF Level 4 qualification
