Job summary

Mediclinic is seeking a Senior Professional Nurse to support the Unit Manager in delivering safe, high-quality patient care and mentoring nursing staff within the unit. The role focuses on mitigating clinical risks, coordinating care delivery, and enhancing the patient experience.

The successful candidate will have a Professional Nurse qualification, with a postgraduate diploma preferred for specialist units, and at least 3 years of hospital nursing experience plus 1 year of mentorship

Qualifications

• Professional nurse registration and practice competence.
• Postgraduate Diploma in Nursing preferred for specialist unit management (e.g. Perioperative).

Responsibilities

• Support Unit Manager to ensure safe patient care and mitigate clinical risks.
• Coordinate care delivery and mentor new and student nurses.
• Manage client experience and ensure staffing resources are optimally utilised.
• Empower staff through continuous assessment and development.
• Assist with operational expense management, including stock and capital.

MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB

The Senior Professional Nurse supports the Unit Manager in ensuring a safe and positive client experience by mitigating clinical risks and co-ordinating care delivery. They further provide direct patient care, as well as mentorship to new and student nurses in the unit.

KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS

• Ensure comprehensive and safe patient care by mitigating risks and meeting set clinical quality standards
• Manage the client experience
• Ensure optimal supply, retention, and utilisation of staffing resources
• Empower and build staff competence through continuous assessment and development
