Job summary

Mediclinic Medforum Sunnyside in Pretoria seeks a Senior Professional Nurse to support the Unit Manager, deliver direct patient care, and mentor students and junior staff. The role focuses on mitigating clinical risks and coordinating care delivery in a high-standard clinical setting.

You will contribute to safe patient outcomes, mentor new nurses, and help optimise staffing and operational efficiency within the unit.

Qualifications

• Professional Nurse qualification and postgraduate diploma in nursing are required.
• Essential nursing skills include pharmacology, infection control, and care planning.
• Experience mentoring nurses and handling clinical risk management is preferred.

MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB

The Senior Professional Nurse supports the Unit Manager in ensuring a safe and positive client experience by mitigating clinical risks and co-ordinating care delivery. They further provide direct patient care, as well as mentorship to new and student nurses in the unit.

KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS

• Ensure comprehensive and safe patient care by mitigating risks and meeting set clinical quality standards
• Manage the client experience
• Ensure optimal supply, retention, and utilisation of staffing resources
• Empower and build staff competence through continuous assessment and development
• Assist with the effective management of operational expenses (including stock and capital)

REQUIRED EDUCATION

ESSENTIAL EDUCATION

Professional Nurse qualification and

Postgraduate Diploma in Nursing if managing a specialist unit (e.g. Perioperative Nursing)

3 years Professional Nurse experience in a hospital
