Qualifications

About the Role

Our client, a leading provider of specialized services to the Oil & Gas industry, is seeking a highly qualified Senior Production Chemist to join their technical team. This role, based in Upington, Northern Cape , will focus on the chemical aspects of oil and gas production, including water treatment, corrosion inhibition, and scale management. The Senior Production Chemist will provide expert advice, develop chemical treatment programs, and troubleshoot production chemistry issues to optimize efficiency and asset integrity. This position requires a strong background in chemistry applied to oilfield operations and the ability to work effectively with operational teams. You will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth and efficient functioning of production systems within the Oil & Gas sector.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement chemical treatment strategies for oil and gas production systems, including scale inhibitors, corrosion inhibitors, biocides, and demulsifiers.
• Analyze production fluid samples (oil, water, gas) to diagnose problems and optimize chemical performance.
• Conduct laboratory tests and field trials to evaluate new chemical products and technologies.
• Provide technical support and troubleshooting assistance to production operations teams.
• Monitor the effectiveness of chemical programs and make adjustments as necessary to ensure optimal performance and cost-effectiveness.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant environmental regulations and safety standards for chemical handling and application.
• Prepare technical reports, recommendations, and presentations on production chemistry issues and solutions.
• Collaborate with clients and internal teams to identify opportunities for chemical program improvement.

Requirements

• Master's degree or Ph.D. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field with a specialization in applied chemistry.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in production chemistry within the Oil & Gas or related process industries.
• Proven expertise in the application of production chemicals, water treatment, and corrosion/scale management.
• Strong laboratory analysis skills and experience with relevant analytical instrumentation.
• Knowledge of environmental regulations related to chemical usage in the industry.
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively independently and as part of a team, often in a hybrid work model.
• Experience in field operations and direct client interaction is a plus.
• Proximity to or willingness to travel regularly to Upington, Northern Cape .
