About the Role

Our client, a key operator in the Oil & Gas industry, is seeking an experienced Senior Production Chemist to join their technical services department in Paarl, Western Cape, ZA . This role is critical for ensuring the efficient and safe production of hydrocarbons by addressing complex chemical challenges. You will be responsible for diagnosing production problems, recommending chemical treatments, and monitoring their effectiveness. This position offers a Hybrid work arrangement, enabling professionals to balance office-based collaboration with focused, remote work, from the beautiful Paarl, Western Cape, ZA region.

Key Responsibilities

• Analyze production fluids and identify potential chemical issues (e.g., scaling, corrosion, emulsion formation).
• Develop and optimize chemical injection strategies for production enhancement and asset integrity.
• Evaluate and select appropriate production chemicals based on performance, cost, and environmental impact.
• Monitor the performance of chemical programs through field sampling and laboratory analysis.
• Provide technical support and troubleshooting for production chemistry-related issues.
• Collaborate with production engineers, facility engineers, and field operations teams.
• Conduct research and development on new chemical technologies and applications.
• Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and chemical handling best practices.
• Prepare technical reports, recommendations, and presentations.
• Mentor junior chemists and technicians.

Requirements

• BSc or MSc in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
• A minimum of 7 years of experience in production chemistry within the Oil & Gas industry.
• Strong knowledge of crude oil and natural gas production chemistry, including scale, corrosion, and emulsion control.
• Experience with laboratory analysis techniques relevant to production fluids.
• Familiarity with chemical treatment programs and their application in the field.
• Understanding of environmental regulations pertaining to chemical use in the industry.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a Hybrid environment and travel occasionally to operational sites as needed.
