Placements24 is seeking a Senior Process Safety Engineer for a fully remote role across South Africa, with focus on safety across process operations. You will lead PHAs, develop PSM programs, and guide incident investigations while collaborating with cross-functional teams.

The ideal candidate has 8+ years in process safety, strong regulatory knowledge (OSHA PSM, EPA RMP), and excellent remote communication skills to influence decisions and drive safety culture.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
• 8+ years of experience focused on process safety in chemical/oil & gas/petrochemical industries.
• In-depth knowledge of process safety principles, standards (OSHA PSM, EPA RMP), and best practices.
• Experience facilitating PHAs and conducting risk assessments.

Responsibilities

• Lead and conduct Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs), including HAZOP, LOPA, and What-If studies.
• Develop, implement, and maintain Process Safety Management (PSM) programs per regulatory standards.
• Perform risk assessments and implement mitigation strategies to reduce process safety risks.
• Investigate process safety incidents, determine root causes, and recommend corrective actions.
• Develop and deliver process safety training programs to personnel virtually.
• Ensure compliance with local and international safety regulations and standards.
• Review process designs for safety implications before implementation.
• Maintain process safety documentation, including procedures, permits, and reports.
• Act as SME on process safety for engineering and operations teams.
• Promote proactive safety culture through clear communication across remote teams.

About the Role

Our client, a globally recognized entity in the chemical manufacturing industry, is seeking an experienced Senior Process Safety Engineer to join their esteemed virtual team. This is a critical, fully remote position, allowing you to leverage your expertise in process safety from anywhere in South Africa, supporting operations that serve regions near Bloemfontein. You will be responsible for ensuring the highest standards of safety are implemented and maintained across all process operations, from design through to decommissioning. • Proven experience facilitating PHAs and conducting risk assessments.
• Strong understanding of chemical processes, equipment, and instrumentation.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and investigative skills.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills for remote collaboration and reporting.
• Demonstrated ability to influence and lead safety initiatives in a virtual setting.
• Proficiency with safety software and data management tools.
• Must be legally authorized to work in South Africa and capable of performing all duties remotely.
