Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and manage comprehensive Process Safety Management (PSM) programs in accordance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
• Conduct thorough Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs), including HAZOP, LOPA, and FMEA studies, to identify and evaluate operational risks.
• Develop and oversee the implementation of risk reduction measures, safeguards, and engineering controls.
• Investigate process safety incidents, near misses, and deviations to determine root causes and implement corrective actions.
• Ensure mechanical integrity programs for critical equipment are robust and effectively maintained.
• Develop and deliver process safety training to operational and engineering personnel.
• Oversee the management of change (MOC) process to ensure safety implications are thoroughly assessed before implementation.
• Conduct regular safety audits and site inspections to verify compliance and identify areas for improvement.
• Maintain detailed records of safety studies, incident reports, and audit findings.
• Stay updated on emerging process safety trends, technologies, and regulatory changes.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 8 years of experience in process safety engineering, preferably within the chemical, petrochemical, or energy industries.
• In-depth knowledge of PSM elements, including OSHA PSM standards or equivalent.
• Proven experience conducting various PHA methodologies (HAZOP, What-If, FMEA, LOPA).
• Strong understanding of safety instrumented systems (SIS) and SIL assessment.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a methodical approach to risk assessment.
• Strong communication, influencing, and report-writing skills.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a cross-functional team.
• Professional certifications such as CSP (Certified Safety Professional) or equivalent are highly desirable.
• Experience working in Klerksdorp or similar industrial settings is advantageous.
