About the Role

Our client, a globally recognized leader in base metals production, is seeking a highly experienced Senior Process Engineer specializing in pyrometallurgy and smelting. Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design, development, and optimization of pyrometallurgical processes, particularly in smelting and refining operations.
• Conduct process simulations and modeling to predict performance, identify bottlenecks, and evaluate design modifications.
• Troubleshoot operational issues in smelting furnaces, convertors, and related equipment, implementing effective solutions.
• Develop and implement strategies to improve process efficiency, reduce energy consumption, and minimize waste generation.
• Ensure all processes comply with stringent health, safety, and environmental regulations, particularly concerning emissions and hazardous materials.
• Collaborate with project teams on the engineering, commissioning, and start-up of new metallurgical plants or upgrades.
• Prepare detailed technical reports, feasibility studies, and process documentation.
• Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance on pyrometallurgical best practices.
• Stay current with advancements in pyrometallurgical technology and propose innovative solutions.
• Work closely with operations, maintenance, and R&D departments to ensure seamless integration of process improvements.

Requirements

• A Master's degree or Ph.D. in Metallurgical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field with a specialization in pyrometallurgy.
• A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in process engineering, with a significant focus on pyrometallurgy, smelting, and refining.
• In-depth knowledge of furnace technologies (e.g., Peirce-Smith converters, electric furnaces, flash furnaces) and associated operations.
• Proven experience in process modeling and simulation software relevant to pyrometallurgy.
• Strong understanding of thermodynamics, kinetics, and mass transfer in high-temperature systems.
• Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex process issues and implement sustainable solutions.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present technical findings effectively to diverse audiences.
