About the Role

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct advanced power system studies, including load flow, stability, short-circuit, and contingency analysis.
• Develop and implement strategies for grid modernization, incorporating smart grid technologies such as AMI, SCADA, and advanced distribution management systems (ADMS).
• Analyze the impact of distributed energy resources (DERs), including renewables and energy storage, on grid operations.
• Design and optimize grid infrastructure to enhance reliability, resilience, and efficiency.
• Develop technical specifications for grid modernization projects and equipment.
• Provide expert technical consultation to utilities, regulators, and project developers.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders to ensure successful project outcomes.
• Stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry best practices in power systems and grid modernization.
• Prepare comprehensive technical reports, proposals, and presentations.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to knowledge sharing within the team.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, with a specialization in Power Systems.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in power system analysis, grid planning, or smart grid technology implementation.
• Deep understanding of power system dynamics, grid codes, and regulatory requirements in South Africa.
• Proficiency with power system simulation software (e.g., PSS/E, ETAP, PSCAD, PowerFactory DIgSILENT).
• Experience with SCADA systems, communication networks, and data management in power systems.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of explaining complex technical concepts clearly.
• Proven ability to work independently and manage complex projects effectively in a remote setting.
• Familiarity with utility operations and challenges related to grid modernization.
