Job summary

Placements24 seeks a Principal Chemical Engineer to lead advanced polymerization development. The role is remote-based but supports Centurion, Gauteng operations, requiring a PhD and 12+ years in polymerization process design and scale-up.

Responsibilities include modeling, safety analyses, and collaboration with R&D, manufacturing, and business teams, with a strong emphasis on mentoring and publishing.

Qualifications

• PhD in Chemical Engineering or Polymer Science/Engineering.
• Minimum 12 years of polymerization process development experience.
• Expert in polymerization techniques: free radical, anionic, cationic, condensation.
• Experience in process modeling and simulation for reactive systems.
• Strong safety, HAZOP, and risk management skills.
• Excellent communication and leadership of multidisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead R&D and optimization of advanced polymerization processes.
• Provide expert guidance on polymer chemistry and reaction kinetics.
• Develop and validate reactor models and downstream processes.
• Oversee pilot plant trials and scale-up to production.
• Conduct safety reviews and risk assessments for new/modified processes.
• Collaborate with R&D, manufacturing, and business teams.
• Author technical docs, patents, and publications.
• Mentor junior engineers and researchers.
