Key Responsibilities

Lead the research, development, and optimization of advanced polymerization processes. Provide expert technical guidance on polymer chemistry, reaction kinetics, and material science. Develop and validate process models for polymerization reactors and associated downstream processing units. Oversee pilot plant trials and scale-up activities, ensuring successful transition to commercial production. Conduct comprehensive safety reviews and risk assessments for all new and modified processes. Collaborate closely with R&D, manufacturing, and business development teams to align technological advancements with market needs. Author technical documentation, patent applications, and scientific publications. Mentor and guide junior engineers and researchers in polymer process technology. Stay abreast of emerging trends and technologies in the field of polymerization and advanced materials.

Requirements

Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering or Polymer Science/Engineering. A minimum of 12 years of specialized experience in polymerization process development and engineering. Deep understanding of various polymerization techniques (e.g., free radical, anionic, cationic, condensation). Proven experience in process modeling and simulation, particularly for reactive systems. Expertise in process safety, HAZOP analysis, and risk management specific to polymer processes. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a results-oriented mindset. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical information clearly. Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage innovation projects. Experience supporting operations in the Centurion, Gauteng region or similar chemical manufacturing hubs.
