Placements24 is seeking a motivated Chemical Engineer specializing in polymerization to join our remote South Africa team. You will develop, optimize, and troubleshoot polymerization processes, contributing to innovative polymer materials from your home office.

This remote role emphasizes virtual collaboration with polymer chemists and production teams, ensuring safety, environmental, and quality standards while staying current with advances in polymerization technology.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering required.
• Minimum 4 years in chemical process development with specialization in polymerization.
• Solid understanding of polymer chemistry, reaction kinetics, and thermodynamics.
• Experience with process safety principles is desirable.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and data interpretation skills.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills for remote work.
• Ability to work independently in a remote environment.

Responsabilités

• Design and conduct experiments to optimize polymerization reaction conditions (temperature, pressure, catalysts, monomers).
• Develop and scale-up polymerization processes from laboratory to pilot and commercial scales.
• Utilize process simulation software to model and analyze polymerization reactors and downstream processing.
• Troubleshoot process issues and implement effective solutions to maintain product quality and process efficiency.
• Characterize polymer properties and relate them to process parameters.
• Prepare Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) and Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) for polymerization units.
• Conduct Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs) for polymerization processes.
• Collaborate with polymer chemists, material scientists, and production teams in a virtual setting.
• Ensure all processes comply with safety, environmental, and quality standards.
• Stay updated on advancements in polymerization technology and materials science.
