Job summary

Placements24, a leading manufacturer of high-performance polymers, seeks a Senior Chemical Engineer to join our Randburg, Gauteng team. You will oversee and optimize polymer production processes, handle design, troubleshooting, debottlenecking, and uphold safety and quality standards.

The role requires a Bachelor's or Master's in Chemical Engineering, 7+ years in process engineering with a polymer focus, and strong skills in Aspen Plus and Knovel, data analysis, problem solving and project

Qualifications

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemical Engineering.
Minimum 7 years of process engineering experience, polymers preferred.
Strong knowledge of polymerization kinetics and reactor design.
Proficiency with process simulation software (Aspen Plus, Knovel) and data analysis tools.
Experience with process safety management (PSM) and hazard analysis.
Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and project management skills.
Strong communication and cross‑functional collaboration abilities.
Hands-on manufacturing experience.
ISO 9001 knowledge is a plus.

Responsibilities

Lead design, modification, and optimization of chemical processes for polymer manufacturing.
Conduct detailed process simulations, mass and energy balances, and P&ID development.
Troubleshoot operational issues; identify root causes and implement improvements.
Oversee commissioning and startup of new equipment and process modifications.
Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and quality standards.
Collaborate with R&D, production, and maintenance to support product development.
Develop and implement process improvement projects to reduce costs and improve quality.
Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance to operations.
Prepare technical reports and operational manuals.
