Job summary

Boardroom Appointments in Cape Town seeks a Senior PHP Backend Developer to join our development team. The role focuses on troubleshooting, testing, and maintaining core product software and databases while collaborating with UX to build scalable, well-architected applications.

You will work across the development lifecycle, apply TDD, refine the codebase, and contribute to architecture with REST and SOAP API services in an Agile environment.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience as a PHP Developer.
• Experience with PHP MVC frameworks such as Symfony or Laravel.
• Experience with API services (REST and SOAP).
• Familiarity with Agile development practices (TDD, refactoring, CI).

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot, test and maintain the core product software and databases.
• Learn the business domain and participate in the requirements gathering process.
• Contribute in all phases of the development lifecycle.
• Build innovative, well-designed applications in collaboration with the UX team.
• Design, develop, document, test, and debug software systems and components.
• Participate in the Agile software development life cycle including reviews and retrospectives.
• Utilise backend services and expand our architecture.
• Refactor, optimise and improve the existing codebase.
• Use Test-Driven Development and acceptance tests to ensure feature quality.
• Engage stakeholders around tasks, evaluations and schedules.
• Keep abreast of new trends and share knowledge with the team.
