Placements24 is seeking a Head of Department for the Senior Phase specializing in Physical Science in Richards Bay, KwaZulu-Natal. The role requires a seasoned educator with leadership and curriculum management experience to oversee the Physical Science faculty and drive academic excellence.

The successful candidate will develop curricula, mentor staff, manage performance, and ensure high-quality science education while upholding safety and regulatory standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Science (Physics or Chemistry) and PGCE or equivalent.
• SACE registration.
• Minimum 6 years teaching Physical Science at senior secondary level.
• Leadership or HoD experience is desirable.
• Strong curriculum development and assessment knowledge.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to manage a team and foster a positive environment.
• Proficiency in laboratory safety protocols and management.
• Willingness to relocate to Richards Bay, KwaZulu-Natal.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the Physical Science department, including staff supervision and performance evaluation.
• Develop, implement, and review the Physical Science curriculum to meet standards and objectives.
• Deliver engaging instruction in Physical Science to senior phase learners.
• Create a safe, stimulating learning environment encouraging participation and critical thinking.
• Oversee assessment and grading with timely feedback.
• Manage departmental resources, budgets, equipment, and labs.
• Collaborate with other department heads and admin to align curriculum.
• Mentor and support teachers within the department.
• Organize and lead departmental meetings and contribute to strategic planning.
• Ensure compliance with educational policies and regulations.
