Job summary

Placements24 is assisting a highly regarded high school in Vereeniging, Gauteng, to recruit a Head of Department for Physical Sciences. The successful candidate will lead Grades 8-12 science, mentor teachers, and ensure delivery of excellent Physics and Chemistry education.

Essential qualifications include a Bachelor's in Physics or Chemistry with a PGCE, 7+ years teaching, CAPS knowledge, and SACE registration.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Physics or Chemistry or related science field with PGCE or equivalent.
• Minimum 7 years of Physical Sciences teaching at high school level.
• Proven leadership or departmental management experience.
• In-depth knowledge of CAPS for Physical Sciences.
• SACE registration completed.
• Strong laboratory safety and management understanding.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the Physical Sciences department for Grades 8-12.
• Mentor and support a team of Physical Sciences teachers.
• Ensure Physics and Chemistry teaching aligns with CAPS and exams.
• Develop innovative teaching strategies and resources.
• Oversee laboratories, equipment and safety protocols.
• Organize departmental meetings and contribute to school planning.
