Placements24 is seeking a Senior Pharmaceutical Microbiologist for a leading pharmaceutical company in Sandton. You will oversee and perform microbiological testing on raw materials, finished products, water systems, and manufacturing environments, ensuring GMP compliance and high-quality standards.

The role requires 5+ years of hands-on pharma microbiology experience, aseptic technique expertise, and strong problem-solving and documentation skills.

Qualifications

• Master's or Ph.D. in Microbiology or related life sciences.
• Minimum 5 years' hands-on pharmaceutical microbiology experience (QC or R&D preferred).
• Deep GMP knowledge and regulatory requirements for pharma microbiology.
• Aseptic techniques, environmental monitoring, and sterility testing experience.
• Proficiency in media preparation, culturing and identification methods.
• Bioburden, endotoxin (LAL) and microbial limit testing experience.
• Strong written and verbal communication with meticulous documentation.
• Ability to work independently and in a fast-paced lab; LIMS familiarity is a plus.

Responsabilités

• Plan, execute, and interpret microbiological tests on raw materials, finished products, water systems, and manufacturing environments.
• Conduct environmental monitoring (air, surface, personnel) in cleanrooms and interpret contamination risks.
• Perform microbial enumeration and identification, including sterility and microbial limit testing.
• Investigate OOS/OOT results, diagnose root causes, and recommend corrective actions.
• Develop, validate, and implement new microbiological methods and protocols.
• Ensure GMP, pharmacopeial standards (USP/EP), and regulatory compliance.
• Maintain detailed lab records, prepare reports, and review data for accuracy.
• Operate and maintain microbiological equipment with proper calibration.
• Train and mentor junior microbiologists and technicians.
• Participate in internal and external audits related to microbiological quality.
