Placements24 is seeking a Senior Petroleum Geologist to lead geological analysis and prospect generation from our Soweto, Gauteng location. The role emphasizes subsurface mapping, basin analysis, and data integration with geophysics and reservoir teams.

The ideal candidate brings a Master's in Geology and 7+ years of experience, with expertise in Petrel and Kingdom Suite, plus strong communication and collaboration skills for cross-disciplinary projects.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Geology or related geoscience field.
• Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in petroleum geology, exploration, or appraisal.
• Proficiency in geological interpretation software (Petrel, Kingdom Suite).
• Experience with seismic interpretation and data integration.
• Demonstrated ability in prospect identification, evaluation, and risking.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform detailed geological mapping and analysis of subsurface data.
• Integrate and interpret geological, geophysical, and petrophysical data to identify potential hydrocarbon prospects.
• Conduct basin analysis, play fairway mapping, and prospect risking.
• Develop and update geological models and cross-sections.
• Collaborate with geophysicists on seismic interpretation and structural analysis.
• Work with reservoir engineers to characterize reservoirs and estimate volumes.
• Provide geological input for exploration and appraisal well planning and execution.
• Prepare technical reports, presentations, and recommendations for management.
• Mentor junior geologists and contribute to team knowledge sharing.
• Stay abreast of new geological concepts and exploration technologies.
