Frogg Recruitment in Sandton/Johannesburg seeks an experienced Assistant Payroll Manager to oversee all payroll activities. The role requires Payspace payroll expertise, strong compliance knowledge, and accuracy in processing for about 10 companies and 2 000 staff.

You will manage capture, reconciliation, reporting, and statutory submissions while guiding a team and contributing to payroll projects and policy improvements.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 and payroll qualifications as required.
• 10+ years of payroll experience with 4+ years in a managerial role.
• Payspace payroll experience essential (parameter level + reporting).
• Accounting background with strong reconciliation skills.
• Tax submissions and regulatory knowledge (LRA/BCEA/POPI).
• Advanced Excel and Word skills mandatory.

Responsibilities

• Manage payrolls for ~10 companies and ~2 000 staff (wages & salaries).
• Oversee capturing, reconciling & control processes.
• Compile & manage departmental budget vs. actuals.
• Tax submissions & statutory compliance.
• Handle bonuses, leave/retrenchment provisions, EE & labour statistics.
• Input into policies & workflows (medical aid, garnishees, etc.).
• Manage Payroll & Time & Attendance system interfaces.
• Guide & develop direct reports.
• Ensure legal compliance & audit-ready processes.
• Participate in strategy & Payroll projects.
