Job summary

SA Steelworks is seeking a Senior Operator to support the Rolling Mill Department in a shift-based role in Cape Town. The successful candidate will perform setup, operation, maintenance, and monitoring of production line machinery while adhering to safety and quality SOPs.

Applicants should have Maths-complete Matric, a related diploma, strong machinery knowledge, and the ability to detect discrepancies. Steel industry experience is advantageous; overtime and shift work are required.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Perform basic mathematical calculations to ensure correct process parameters.
• Setup, adjust, operate and maintain machinery on the production line.
• Daily inspection of the work area and report failures or hazards.
• Follow standard operating procedures and maintain equipment.
• Maintain cleanliness and housekeeping of the workstation.
• Enforce housekeeping policies and safe work practices.
• Monitor production process and ensure quality control.
• Analyse potential failures and communicate fixes promptly.
• Ensure thorough shift handovers and report issues clearly daily.
• Comply with Occupational Health and Safety Act requirements.

Job description

SA Steelworks has Senior Operator positions available. The successful candidate will provide support to SA Steelworks Rolling Mill Department. Applicants will be required to complete a skills test, only candidates with an average of 70% can successfully apply for the vacancy. (SHIFT POSITION)

Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

• Must be able to do basic mathematical calculations to ensure correct process parameters

• Accurate setup, adjustments, operation and maintenance of machinery/stands/ mechanism in the production line process

• Conduct daily inspection of relevant work area and report possible failures or unsafe working conditions

• Maintain standard machine operating procedures when operating machinery

• General maintenance and cleaning of the work area/workstation you are responsible for

• Must enforce and practice housekeeping policies

• Effectively monitor production process

• Ability to analyze potential failures and communicate accordingly with possible solutions in a timeous manner

• Ensure shift handover is conducted thoroughly and that all issues are reported clearly on a daily basis

• Abiding by the regulations as set out in Occupational Health and Safety Act and

Company policies

• Quality control according to set standards

• Adhere to standard operating procedures (SOPs) as per tasks assigned
