Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Network Infrastructure Engineer for a leading telecommunications provider in Johannesburg. You will design, implement, and maintain core network infrastructure across South Africa, driving reliability and performance.

The ideal candidate has 7+ years in network engineering with Cisco/Juniper expertise, strong TCP/IP/BGP/OSPF/MPLS knowledge, VPN/IDS/IPS experience, and relevant certifications. This is a hybrid role based in Gauteng.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in network engineering and infrastructure management within the telecommunications industry.
• Proven expertise in Cisco, Juniper, or similar enterprise-grade networking equipment.
• Strong understanding of TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, MPLS, and VLANs.
• Experience with network security protocols and tools (e.g., VPN, IDS/IPS).
• Proficiency in network monitoring and analysis tools (e.g., SolarWinds, Wireshark).
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Relevant certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, or JNCIE are highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and manage complex network infrastructures, including routing, switching, and firewall configurations.
• Oversee the deployment and maintenance of WAN/LAN networks, ensuring optimal performance and reliability.
• Develop and execute network upgrade and expansion plans to meet growing demands.
• Troubleshoot and resolve critical network issues, minimizing downtime and impact on services.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate network solutions with other IT systems.
• Develop and enforce network security policies and procedures to protect company assets.
• Monitor network performance using advanced tools and implement proactive optimization measures.
• Mentor junior network engineers and provide technical guidance.
• Stay abreast of the latest networking technologies and industry best practices.
• Document network configurations, procedures, and incidents thoroughly.
