Placements24 is seeking a Senior Network Architect to design and implement scalable telecommunications networks in Johannesburg. You will lead the development of high-performance LAN/WAN and wireless infrastructures, crafting topologies, addressing schemes, and security policies.

You will mentor engineers, evaluate emerging network technologies, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver robust, secure, and innovative connectivity solutions for diverse clients.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in CS/EE/Telecommunications; Master’s is a plus.
• Minimum 8 years in network architecture and design within telco.
• Proven expertise in IP-based networks with MPLS, BGP, OSPF.
• Hands-on with virtualization technologies such as NSX and ACI.
• Strong knowledge of security, VPNs, firewalls, and IDS/IPS.
• Experience with cloud networking (AWS, Azure, GCP).
• Familiarity with SIP, LTE, 5G and telecom standards.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

• Design and architect scalable, reliable, and high-performance telecommunication networks, including LAN, WAN, and wireless infrastructures.
• Develop and maintain comprehensive network design documentation, including topology diagrams, configuration guidelines, and IP addressing schemes.
• Evaluate and recommend new network technologies, hardware, and software solutions to meet evolving business requirements and improve network efficiency.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineering, operations, and product development, to ensure seamless integration of network solutions.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related field. Master's degree is a plus.
• Minimum of 8 years of experience in network architecture and design within the telecommunications industry.
• Proven expertise in designing and implementing complex IP-based networks, MPLS, BGP, OSPF, and other routing protocols.
• Hands-on experience with network virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware NSX, Cisco ACI).
• In-depth knowledge of network security principles, firewalls, VPNs, and intrusion detection/prevention systems.
• Experience with cloud networking concepts and solutions (AWS, Azure, GCP).
• Strong understanding of telecommunications standards and protocols (e.g., SIP, SS7, LTE, 5G).
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
• Relevant certifications such as CCIE, JNCIE, or equivalent are highly desirable.
• Ability to work effectively in a team and independently.
