Placements24 is seeking a Senior Network Engineer in Johannesburg, Gauteng to design, implement and maintain core network infrastructure for a leading telecommunications provider. The role emphasizes security, reliability, and performance in a carrier-grade environment.

You will design, configure, and deploy advanced network solutions, monitor performance, create documentation, and collaborate with IT teams to ensure seamless integration and 24/7 support.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Minimum 5–7 years of network engineering experience in enterprise or carrier-grade environments.
• Proficiency with TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, MPLS and related routing/switching protocols.
• Experience with network security practices including firewalls, VPNs, IDS/IPS.
• Experience with network monitoring tools such as SolarWinds, Nagios, or similar.

Responsibilities

• Design, configure, and deploy advanced network solutions (routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers).
• Monitor network performance and troubleshoot complex issues; identify root causes and implement solutions.
• Develop and maintain network documentation (diagrams, configurations, procedures).

• Participate in on-call rotations for 24/7 support of core infrastructure.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in network engineering, with a focus on enterprise or carrier-grade networks.
• In-depth knowledge of TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, MPLS, and other routing and switching protocols.
• Proficiency with network security best practices, including firewalls, VPNs, and intrusion detection/prevention systems.
• Experience with network monitoring tools such as SolarWinds, Nagios, or similar.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a methodical approach to troubleshooting.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
• Relevant industry certifications (e.g., CCNA, CCNP, JNCIP) are highly desirable.
• Experience working within the **telecoms** sector is a significant advantage.
