Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Network Engineer for its Pietermaritzburg team. The role designs, implements, and maintains robust telecommunications networks to support a growing customer base, ensuring reliability, performance, and security.

You will lead routing, switching, and firewall configurations, monitor performance, document configurations, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deploy new services and drive operational excellence.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
Minimum 5 years of network engineering experience in the telecoms sector.
Proficient with enterprise routers, switches, and firewalls from vendors like Cisco or Juniper.
Strong knowledge of TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, MPLS, and related protocols.
Experience with network monitoring tools and security principles.

Responsibilities

Design, deploy, and manage complex IP networks including routing, switching, and firewall configs.
Monitor performance, identify bottlenecks, and improve throughput and latency.
Develop and maintain network documentation, diagrams, configurations, and procedures.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate new services and technologies.
Respond to incidents and outages swiftly to minimize disruption.
Lead troubleshooting for complex network issues with expert analysis.
