Job summary

Mr Price Group is seeking an experienced Senior Buyer to lead the sourcing, selection, and performance of our mobile technology portfolio, including handsets, tablets, wearables, and accessories.

You will drive sales and profitability through strategic supplier partnerships, effective inventory management, and customer-focused range planning, while mentoring junior buyers and shaping category strategy.

Qualifications

• Matric required.
• Tertiary qualification in Business, Commerce, Retail Management or Supply Chain is advantageous.
• 1–2 years buying experience in telecom/mobile retail.
• Experience sourcing mobile handsets, tablets, wearables or related tech products.
• Sound understanding of retail buying processes, inventory management and category performance metrics.
• Strong supplier negotiation and commercial management experience.
• Excellent negotiation, relationship management and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute category strategies across mobile devices, wearables, accessories and related technology products.
• Build commercially competitive product assortments aligned to customer demand and business objectives.
• Manage full product lifecycle including launches, promotions, replenishment and phase-outs.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, manufacturers and network operators.
• Negotiate pricing, rebates, promotional support, exclusives and trading terms to maximise profitability.
• Conduct supplier performance reviews and resolve supply, quality and commercial issues.
• Deliver category sales, margin and profitability targets.
• Analyse sales trends, stock performance and market demand to optimise product availability.
• Manage inventory levels to minimise stock-outs and reduce excess/obsolete stock.
• Stay informed of emerging mobile technology trends, competitor activity and customer preferences.
• Identify new product opportunities and category growth initiatives.
• Provide insights based on market analysis and trading performance.
• Mentor junior buyers and assistants.
• Collaborate with Merchandising, Marketing, Operations and Finance to execute category plans and campaigns.
• Present category performance and insights to stakeholders.
