Job summary

Responsibilities include policy development, risk assessments, incident investigations, audits, and emergency planning.

Qualifications

• National Diploma in Safety Management is required.
• Minimum 8 years' experience in mining, mineral processing.
• Strong knowledge of the Mining Safety Act.
• Professional Registration preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop safety policies and procedures compliant with local and international regulations.
• Enforce safety standards across operations.
• Conduct risk assessments to identify hazards.
• Develop risk mitigation strategies to minimize accidents and injuries.
• Ensure safety training is completed and understood by staff.
• Promote a culture of safety through ongoing education.
• Lead investigations into accidents and near-misses; determine root causes.
• Prepare reports and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrences.
• Ensure compliance with Mine Health and Safety Act and related standards.
• Conduct safety audits and regular inspections of procedures.
• Develop emergency response plans for fires, explosions, and environmental hazards.
• Coordinate drills and exercises to test readiness.
• Monitor safety performance metrics and trends; use data to improve programs.
• Provide leadership to the safety team and staff.
• Communicate safety goals and updates to all levels of the organization.
• Liaise with government bodies and industry groups on safety matters.
• Represent the company in safety forums and industry improvements.
• Address environmental hazards impacting safety.
• Evaluate and implement new safety technologies.
