About the Role

Our client, a major force in the mining industry , is seeking an accomplished Senior Mining Engineer to oversee and optimize operational aspects of their mine located near Vereeniging, Gauteng . This leadership role is integral to ensuring safe, efficient, and cost-effective extraction of resources. The successful candidate will be responsible for mine planning, production scheduling, operational execution, and continuous improvement initiatives. We are looking for a results-oriented professional with extensive experience in underground or open-pit mining operations and a strong understanding of mine engineering principles. This hybrid role requires a strategic thinker capable of managing on-site operations while contributing to long-term planning and development from a flexible location. Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement short-term and medium-term mine plans and production schedules to meet company targets.
• Oversee daily mining operations, ensuring adherence to safety standards, production goals, and quality specifications.
• Manage and mentor a team of mining engineers, supervisors, and mine personnel.
• Conduct performance analysis of mining operations, identify bottlenecks, and implement corrective actions.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations for the Vereeniging area.
• Optimize resource utilization, including equipment, personnel, and consumables.
• Prepare operational reports, budget forecasts, and feasibility studies.
• Collaborate with geological, engineering, and maintenance departments to ensure integrated mine management.
• Stay abreast of new mining technologies and methodologies, recommending adoption where beneficial.
• Manage operational risks and develop mitigation strategies.
• Participate in mine design reviews and contribute to long-range planning.

Requirements

• BSc or BEng in Mining Engineering or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in mine operations, with a significant portion in a supervisory or senior engineering role.
• Proven experience with both underground and/or open-pit mining methods.
• Proficiency in mine planning and design software (e.g., Deswik, Vulcan, Surpac).
• Strong understanding of mine production, equipment, and operational logistics.
• Excellent leadership, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
• Demonstrated ability to manage teams and foster a positive safety culture.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills for collaborating with diverse teams and stakeholders.
• Experience working in a hybrid environment, balancing site presence with remote planning and reporting.
• Registered or eligible for registration with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) as a Professional Engineer is essential.
• Previous operational experience in the Gauteng province, particularly near Vereeniging , is highly preferred.
