Placements24 seeks a Senior Mining Engineer to oversee open-pit operations in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal. You will lead strategic planning, design, and execution of mining activities, ensuring safety and environmental compliance while driving efficiency.

You will manage mining schedules, pit design optimization, and equipment utilization, collaborating with geologists and other specialists. A Pr. Eng. registration or eligibility is required, with relocation to Pietermaritzburg as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or related field.
• 7+ years open-pit mining experience.
• Knowledge of Surpac/Vulcan/MineSight.
• Drilling and blasting principles, explosive safety.
• Familiar with South African mining regulations and HSE standards.
• Registered Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng.) or eligibility for ECSA registration.
• Willingness to relocate or work on-site in Pietermaritzburg.

Responsabilités

• Develop and implement mine plans and production schedules for open-pit operations in Pietermaritzburg.
• Conduct geological and geotechnical assessments to optimize pit design, slope stability, and extraction sequences.

Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or a related field from a recognized institution.
• A minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in open-pit mining operations, with a proven track record of successful project management.
• In-depth knowledge of mine planning software (e.g., Surpac, Vulcan, MineSight) and geotechnical analysis techniques.
• Strong understanding of drilling and blasting principles, including explosive safety and efficiency.
• Familiarity with South African mining regulations, health, and safety standards is essential.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Proficiency in project management methodologies and tools.
• Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively manage diverse teams.
• Registered Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng.) or eligibility for registration with ECSA.
• Willingness to relocate or work on-site in the Pietermaritzburg area as required.
