Job summary

IOM in Pretoria seeks a Senior Migration Health Nurse to coordinate daily nursing activities at the Migration Health Assessment Centre (MHAC). The role covers medical exams, vaccinations, TB management and pre-departure procedures for migrants and refugees.

The position requires a Bachelor’s in nursing, four years of clinical experience, SA nursing licensure, and strong leadership and clinical skills. Masters is advantageous; participate in SOP adherence and quality improvement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in nursing from an accredited institution.
• Four years of professional nursing experience; a Master's degree or higher is advantageous.
• A valid license to practice nursing in South Africa is mandatory.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate daily nursing activities within the Migration Health Assessment Centre (MHAC), including medical examinations, imaging, laboratory testing, vaccinations, TB management, treatment referrals and pre-departure procedures.
• Provide health education and counselling to migrants and refugees on the assessment process, treatments, TB/HIV prevention, and pre-departure evaluations.
• Assist in developing health education materials, ensure proper identification procedures for all individuals undergoing health assessments, and uphold SOPs and checklists.
• Manage MHAC pharmacy stock, prepare medical and emergency kits, create schedules for nursing staff, and contribute to quality improvement initiatives.
