Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a dedicated Senior Research Scientist specializing in Microbiology to join a cutting-edge facility in Mossel Bay. You will lead research projects, manage laboratory operations, and drive environmentally relevant microbial developments.

The role offers opportunities to publish findings, collaborate across teams, and advance sustainable solutions in environmental remediation and industrial biotechnology within a well-equipped lab in the Western Cape.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, or related field.
• Minimum 5 years of post-Ph.D. research experience with a strong publication record.
• Expertise in microbial genetics, molecular techniques (PCR, qPCR, sequencing), and microbial physiology.
• Experience with bioinformatics tools for microbial genomics and metabolic pathway analysis is advantageous.
• Proficiency in laboratory techniques for culturing and handling diverse microbial communities.
• Strong problem-solving abilities and excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead research projects focused on microbial characterization, metabolic engineering, and fermentation processes.
• Design and perform experiments involving microbial culturing, genetic manipulation, and molecular analysis.
• Analyze and interpret complex microbiological and biochemical data, generating reports and presenting findings.
• Develop and optimize protocols for microbial strain isolation, identification, and characterization.
• Ensure compliance with safety regulations and maintain meticulous laboratory records.
• Collaborate with other scientists and engineers to integrate microbial solutions into larger R&D projects in Mossel Bay.
