Placements24 is seeking a Senior Microbiologist to lead advanced research projects in their Mahikeng laboratory. The role focuses on microbial communities, novel analytic techniques, and applied environmental/industrial research.

The candidate will oversee experiments, analyze data, and collaborate with partners while upholding strict safety and regulatory standards. This is an on-site leadership position in South Africa.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. required in microbiology or related life sciences.
• Minimum 5 years of post‑doctoral or industry research experience.
• Experience with microbial culturing, identification and advanced molecular methods.
• Proficiency with bioinformatics tools for genomic/metagenomic data.
• Strong analytical abilities and clear written/verbal communication.

Responsibilities

• Lead research projects on microbial diversity, metabolism and interactions.
• Design and perform experiments for microbial culture, identification and characterization.
• Utilize molecular techniques such as metagenomics and qPCR for analysis.
• Analyze complex microbiological and genomic data and prepare comprehensive reports.
• Collaborate with internal and external partners to advance research objectives.
• Ensure adherence to laboratory safety and regulatory standards.
