Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Principal Research Scientist to lead a microbiology division in Stellenbosch. You will define the scientific direction, manage projects, and mentor a team of scientists in cutting-edge microbial research.

The role requires a PhD and at least 7 years of leadership experience with a strong track record in pathogenesis, molecular biology, and antimicrobial research. This is a senior, research-driven position in a renowned institution.

Qualifications

PhD in Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Immunology, or a related discipline.
Minimum of 7 years of post-doctoral or industry experience in a research leadership role.
Extensive knowledge of bacterial and/or viral pathogenesis, genetics, and physiology.
Proven experience with advanced microbiological techniques, including aseptic techniques, molecular biology methods, and microscopy.
Demonstrated ability to secure research funding and manage project budgets effectively.

Responsibilities

Lead and manage research projects focused on understanding microbial pathogenesis and host-pathogen interactions.
Develop and implement novel techniques for isolation, cultivation, and characterization of diverse microbial species.
Oversee the design and execution of experiments related to antimicrobial resistance and novel treatment strategies.
Mentor and guide junior research staff, fostering a collaborative and high-performance team environment.
Author peer-reviewed publications and present research findings at national and international conferences.
