Job summary

Placements24 seeks a Lead Metallurgist (Beneficiation) to lead mineral processing projects in George, Western Cape, optimizing extraction and beneficiation circuits while guiding R&D and new processing techniques.

The role will manage metallurgical teams, collaborate with researchers and suppliers, ensure safety and environmental standards, and produce detailed reports and economic evaluations for site operations.

Qualifications

• Master's or PhD in Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering, or closely related field.
• Minimum of 10 years in mineral processing with beneficiation track record.
• Extensive knowledge of comminution, flotation, gravity separation, and hydrometallurgy.
• Proficiency in metallurgical simulation software (e.g., HSC Chemistry, METSIM).
• Demonstrated leadership in managing technical teams.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and optimize metallurgical processes for mineral beneficiation.
• Conduct pilot plant trials and scale-up studies for new processing technologies.
• Analyze process data to identify improvements and cost reductions.
• Oversee operations and maintenance of flotation, leaching, and other beneficiation circuits.
• Manage metallurgical teams and provide technical guidance.
• Ensure adherence to quality control standards and product specs.
• Collaborate with research institutions and suppliers on cutting-edge solutions.
• Prepare detailed technical reports, flowsheets, and economic evaluations.
• Champion health, safety, and environmental best practices.
