Placements24 seeks a highly experienced Chief Metallurgist to lead metallurgical operations in Richards Bay, KwaZulu-Natal. You will oversee mineral processing, hydrometallurgy and pyrometallurgy, drive process optimization, and manage teams across pilot plants and full-scale facilities.

The role requires a strong track record in leadership, project management and cost-efficient operations, with a focus on safety and environmental compliance in a complex mineralogy context.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Metallurgy or Chemical Engineering; PhD advantageous.
• A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in metallurgical operations, with at least 3 years in a senior or leadership capacity.
• Extensive knowledge of mineral processing techniques (e.g., flotation, leaching, smelting, refining).
• Proven experience in process modeling, simulation, and optimization software.
• Strong understanding of analytical techniques and laboratory management.
• Leadership, team management, and project management skills.
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making abilities.

Responsabilités

• Develop, implement, and optimize metallurgical extraction and beneficiation processes for various minerals.
• Lead and mentor a team of metallurgists and laboratory technicians, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
• Oversee the operation and maintenance of pilot plants and full-scale processing facilities.
• Conduct detailed metallurgical test work and analysis to improve yields and product quality.
• Manage process control strategies, ensuring adherence to quality specifications and environmental standards.
• Troubleshoot operational issues and implement effective solutions to maximize plant performance.
• Collaborate with research and development teams on new process technologies and innovations.
• Manage metallurgical budgets, consumables, and reagent consumption to ensure cost-effectiveness.
• Ensure all metallurgical activities comply with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
• Prepare technical reports, feasibility studies, and presentations for senior management.
