Job summary
Placements24 is seeking an accomplished Lead Metallurgical Engineer to oversee and optimize mining operations in Cape Town, Western Cape. You will head a team of metallurgists and technicians, driving recovery improvements, pilot studies, and process optimization while ensuring safety and environmental compliance.
The role requires a Master’s or PhD in Metallurgy or related field, 10+ years in mineral processing, and at least 3 years in a lead capacity.
Qualifications
- Master's or PhD in Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum 10 years in mineral processing and extractive metallurgy.
- At least 3 years in a lead or supervisory role in mining.
Responsibilities
- Lead design, development, and optimization of mineral processing circuits.
- Mentor metallurgists and technicians; drive continuous improvement.
- Improve metal recovery, concentrate grades, and process efficiency.
- Conduct pilot plant studies and trials for new tech.
- Troubleshoot metallurgical problems and implement solutions.
- Ensure environmental and safety compliance across operations.
- Prepare technical reports and present to senior management.
- Stay updated on industry trends and best practices.
